My woodburned pieces range from Virginia wildlife and botanical designs to dragons, griffins and other creatures drawn from folklore and imagination. 

Historic ornament is a frequent source of inspiration, with influences ranging from medieval and Byzantine art to Persian, Moorish, Indian, Japanese, and Chinese decorative traditions, along with the Arts and Crafts movement and artists such as William Morris.

The result is an eclectic collection of nature-inspired and fantastical art with an old-world feel—sometimes intricate and ornamental, sometimes mysterious, and often a little magical. Each woodburn is created entirely by hand using a fine-tipped burning pen. Rather than drawing the subject itself, I burn the space around it, allowing the negative space of the natural wood to become the lightest part of the image. Repetitive marks, pattern, texture, and the grain of the wood come together to create each piece.
