⚜️ UNDERSTORY: This peacock began with a motif I discovered in my now-indispensable book of historic patterns and ornaments. I wish I could tell you exactly which region and time period it came from, but that particular detail has apparently escaped me. I think the urn shape was Egyptian inspired and the pattern Ancient Greece - or was that the other way around? Either way, this piece is truly a bit of a mishmash of inspirations. I liked the idea of bringing them together and seeing whether they could become a world of their own.

And somehow, they did. The peacock acquired his decorative surroundings, the different patterns found a way to live together, and the whole thing became something that feels both old and entirely its own.

I suppose that’s one of the things I love about perusing historic ornament. A small motif from centuries ago can catch my eye, and before I know it, I’m off down another rabbit hole, wondering what it might become deconstructed and burned into a slab of wood!

Each woodburn is created using a fine-tipped burning pen. Rather than drawing the subject itself, I burn around it, allowing the negative space of the natural wood to become the lightest part of the image. Repetitive marks, pattern, texture, and the grain of the wood come together to create each piece.

The burn time noted above reflects the burning process itself and does not include the time spent developing the original design or preparing the wood.

Each piece is offered as a limited handmade edition of 10. It is individually drawn and burned by hand—not printed or mechanically reproduced—so no two will be exactly alike. Variations in wood grain, live edge, size, shape, thickness, and handwork are a natural part of the process and give each piece its own character.

Each finished woodburn is numbered as part of its edition. Please allow approximately 4–6 weeks for creation before shipping.
