My illustration and art career started soon after college with early projects ranging from greeting-card illustration to sculpture to graphic design. Throughout the years, however, there were many pauses and detours along the way because I've never been particularly good at staying inside one creative box.  That is until I discovered FIRE.

I stumbled into pyrography through a side door and became utterly fascinated by what could be achieved with the tiny tip of a burning pen and the negative space of a piece of wood.  This is a medium I'm now completely addicted to!  Having said that, after weeks of working on a single monochromatic piece, my craving for color rushes at me with full force and that's when creamy oil pastel and the velvety texture of gouache give me somewhere else to work and play until the pyro in me returns. 

Looking back, the medium seems to matter less than the visual world I keep returning to. Sometimes I find myself swimming in the quiet atmosphere of the Tonalist School; other times I'm pulled toward the bolder ornament of Art Nouveau or the intricate details of the Arts & Crafts movement. But throughout it all, it's the moody aesthetic of nature, old-world imagery, dense patterns and textures and a touch of the mysterious that find its way into every piece.

On the more personal side, I live with my wonderful husband of 14 years in a tiny, mysterious spot of Swoope, Virginia called Trinity Point—the place that gave this studio its name. We have 20 acres, 19 of which we've largely left to naturalize for all our Wilder Neighbors. I occasionally attempt to impose some order on the remaining acre with flower and vegetable beds, but nature and I don't always agree on the definition of "order."

Still, there's always next year.

When we're not working, we like to explore this little piece of the world by foot and water, wander farther afield when we can, and occasionally snowboard in winter when it allows. When life gets too busy for any of that, there's always our porch swing.  Oh, and just recently I took up hand spinning cotton and flax on the tahkli spindle....such fun!
