The Verdigris Rosette

The Verdigris Rosette centers a richly layered ranunculus within a decorative border of stylized foliage. ⚜️ UNDERSTORY: I don't know if it's because I'm a really slow designer—sometimes putting as many as 30 hours into the design alone—but once I've finished creating one and choosing a color palette, I can't help wondering what it would look like in another palette—or even another medium. I once considered calling these variations Sophie’s Choice, but that seemed awfully grim for a collection of flowers. So instead of choosing, I do them all!

I am drawn to gouache for its velvety, matte surface and rich, opaque color, and increasingly make my own paints from artist pigments as part of the process. I often use the medium to explore the pattern, botanical forms, and decorative influences that find their way throughout my work.
