WELCOME TO MY STUDIO
WELCOME TO MY STUDIO
I am an artist based in Swoope, Virginia working primarily in pyrography, watercolor/gouache, oil pastel and lithographic crayon.
My work explores the quiet spaces between things. I am drawn to atmosphere, rhythm, and the subtle relationships that exist around a subject rather than the subject alone. Mist, shadow, pattern, texture, movement, and the passage of qi often interest me as much as any object being depicted.
I am fascinated by processes that require patience and attention. Through repetitive mark-making, limited palettes, careful observation, and deliberate craftsmanship, I seek to create work that unfolds slowly and rewards lingering. The act of making is often meditative, and that sense of contemplation is something I hope remains present in the finished piece.
In a world that increasingly competes for our attention, I am interested in creating places of rest. Not escape, but pause. Moments where the eye can settle, the mind can wander, and the viewer can simply be present. Yet I am equally drawn to the quiet vitality that exists within stillness—the movement of wind through leaves, the drift of mist across a landscape, the unfolding of a flower, the unseen currents that connect one form to another. I seek not stillness as absence, but stillness that is alive.
The landscapes, objects, and forms that appear in my work are often less important than the atmosphere surrounding them. They serve as doorways into a quieter experience, inviting the viewer to slow down and spend time with what might otherwise go unnoticed.
Whether rendered through fire on wood, pigment on paper, or the soft tonal language of drawing, my work is an invitation to pause, to breathe, and to dwell for a moment in the space between.
